In the spring of 2017, Roderick Woodruff was awarded the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Engaged Learning Fellowship. This fellowship has afforded Roderick the opportunity to research the long-term effects of toxic masculinity imposed on inner- city black youth in four major cities: Detroit, London, Dallas and New York. As a result of this research, the first production of "A Boys Room" was born in April of 2019 at SMU. Despite the conservative culture at SMU, the production was received very well. Shortly after, Roderick teamed up with producer Kaylyn Buckley and director Brandi Jaray Mcleain to begin laying the ground work for the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
